Basic Info

The Midget Suckermouth is one of the smallest Catfish available. At maturity, they will reach a size of only one to two inches. The tops of their bodies are green-brown with black spots. A black stripe separates the top and bottom of their body. Their lower half is white. Midget Suckermouths have narrow, tubular bodies.

Health

The Midget Suckermouth is relatively easy to care for. They will eat algae that grows in the tank. However, they may eat all the algae, and should be given algae tablets occasionally. Also, fresh zucchini, spinach, peas, and lettuce are also acceptable to feed the Midget Suckermouth. Their water temperature should be between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit, with a pH of five and a half to seven and a half. Breeding When spawning, the Midget Suckermouth will deposit its eggs on plant leaves. These eggs will hatch in roughly three days, and should be given plenty of algae to feed on. Also, particulate foods are recommended.

Habitat

Fresh water fish

Behavior

The Dwarf Otocinclus, also known as the Midget Suckermouth Catfish or just Midget Suckermouth, is a great fish to have in any aquarium. The main reason for this is their ability to clean the surfaces of the aquarium of algae. Also, their small size allows them to fit into any sized tank. The Midget Suckermouth is a peaceful, community fish. They will not bother any other fish. However, due to their small size, they may be eaten by larger fish. Midget Suckermouth are mostly nocturnal, like other Catfish, and will come out mostly at night. Midget Suckermouths should be kept in aquariums with lots of rock decoration, and plenty of places to hide. They prefer sandy substrates, but gravel will be accepted.
